On And On

On And On

(Rich Mullins)

Along a road a pilgrim walked in silence.
He ventured slowly going to see the King. He felt a whisp of wind.
On and on and on and on and on like music!
"Oh, Wind!" he cried. You set the leaves all dancing!
I'd love to give such life to all I touch. But, I don't know the way."
On and on and on and on and on like music!
I'm holding on to holding on, too scared to let my soul be free
To do the things love bids me do, to empty myself empty.
Oh, pilgrim there, I heard your prayers this morning
And, you can give. I get my gifts from giving, giving to the Lord!
On and on and on and on and on like music!

And, as he walked, he heard a river singing.
He said to her, "I'd love to sing like you. But, I don't know the way".
On and on and on and on and on like music!
"I have no pipes. I have no tunes for piping.
But, if I did, I'd surely play it loudly so all the world could hear!"
On and on and on and on and on like music!
I'm holding on to holding on, too scared to let my soul be free
To do the things love bids me do, to empty myself empty.
"Oh, pilgrim there! I heard your prayer this morning.
And, you can sing. I get my song from singing, singing to the Lord!"
On and on and on and on and on like music!

Day turned to night. Night turned to cold and lonely.
And, as he walked, he saw a trail of light come from some distant moon.
On and on and on and on and on like music!
"Oh moon", he said. "Your light won't let me stumble!
And, so I'd shine for my brothers to see. But, I don't know the way"
On and on and on and on and on like music!
But, I'm turnin' on to turnin' on. At last I let my soul be free
To do the things love bids me do, to empty myself empty.
"Oh, pilgrim there, I heard your prayer last morning.
And, you can shine! I get my light from shining, shining to the Lord!"
On and on and on and on and on like music!
