But For Your Grace

But For Your Grace

(Rich Mullins)

But for Your grace I could know no peace.
I have no wings. I have no wings to bear me away.
But, You are flight to me!
And, in Your love I can be free! I can be free.
Thou Morning Star who lit the way for dawn
Bear me away and make a home in my heart
Where dark and silent sleeps the dream
Covered in Winter, and waiting for the Spring! Waiting for Spring.
But, You have filled me up with songs I could not hope to sing tomorrow.
I find a voice for them today.
And, in Your love, I have a light the stars would beg to borrow,
The evening could not steal away.
Had I the gift of rhyming, I would write a song for You.
But, all we do here dies.
But, for Your life, none would survive this patterned death.
The curse of time! The curse of time!
But, You have filled me up with songs I could not hope to sing tomorrow.
I find a voice for them today.
And, in Your love, I have a light the stars would beg to borrow,
The evening could not steal away.
